Bunnies Don't Lay Eggs


What is it with Easter Bunnies and eggs? Rabbits don't lay eggs. Even on Easter. But parrot's do. And our parrot Miss Bubba Boy did. Twice. Maybe it wasn't Easter, but what the heck.


Miss Bubba Boy laid not one, but two clutches of eggs. The first clutch of four eggs in 2002 (the four on the right in the photo above). The second clutch of three eggs in 2006. Thankfully none since. Entering Kabul’s Ka Faroshi bird market is like stepping back in time a hundred years, to a corner of the city untouched by war or modernization. Also known as the Alley of Straw Sellers, it’s a narrow lane tucked away behind the Pul-e Khishti Mosque, lined with stalls and booths selling birds by the dozen, plus the occasional rabbit.
