Blue Tara Brazilian

Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha

Coffee Parrot Coffee is proud to introduce a new organic coffee from Brazil, the home of the world's rarest parrots, including the Hyacinth Macaw parrot featured on our label. Our spokesparrot is a Hyacinth Macaw named Princess Tara. And Princess Tara is indeed a real princess. Her parents are a Duke and a Duchess.

Organic Fair Trade

Situated at an altitude of 3200 feet, Fazenda Colina is located in the Brazilian state with the very Middle Earth sounding name of Minas Gerais. Fazenda is a Portuguese word meaning farm or plantation. Fazenda Colina is one of the only wholly certified organic farms in the Cerrado region of Brazil. They have been certified since 2007. The farm is about 76 hectares (188 acres) in total with about 50 hectares of coffee trees. Along with organic certification, the farm has also been certified Biodynamic, which is a testament to their dedication to care for the nutrition of the soils, the coffee trees, and the environment. The flavor profile of dry processed Brazilian coffee beans is dominated by dried fruit. The Fazenda Colina bean is distinct in its balance and sweetness while still bringing a characteristically strong body, dense mouth-feel, and low acidity. Fazenda Colina has a rich buttery aroma with dark chocolate and cherry notes, a balanced, deep taste and a lingering finish.

You will find this coffee micro-roasted to perfection only at CoffeeParrot.Coffee.

Smokey Needs a New Seattle Area Home

We brought Smokey home to our flock in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood. Smokey is a male Congo African Grey parrot believed to be about 25 years old. His previous owner was his third owner. Smokey was with his second owner for only six months. Smokey is a vocal fellow. He says hello, bye, come here, Hi Smoke. And he makes all the usual African Grey parrot noises such as the phone ringing. Apparently Smokey had plucking issues prior to his third home but according to his previous owner the plucking has stopped. We are told that Smokey has a preference for women.

Smokey seems to have a healthy appetite. As far as we can tell his diet seemed to revolve around Zupreem pellets, peanut butter cookies, and grapes. We don't know when he last had a nut to eat, but he loves almonds. After a day with our flock he hasn't yet ventured out of his cage, even though we leave the door open. He still needs time to adjust to his changed environment.

Anyone here in the Seattle area with African Grey parrot experience interested in adopting Smokey please contact Northwest Parrots Fund, a 501(c)3 nonprofit charity registered in the State of Washington.

Parrot Feathers Are Endlessly Fascinating

Like snowflakes, no two feathers are alike. Feathers are created by keratin proteins, the same material that creates parrot beaks, human hair, as well as finger and toe nails. There are two basic types of feathers: vaned feathers which cover the exterior of the body, and down feathers which are underneath the vaned feathers. Feathers aid in flight, thermal insulation, waterproofing, and coloration that helps in communication and protection.
